How do we want to grow old? Does independence have to come at the cost of loneliness? Must family be the only antidote to solitude? These were the questions posed by seniors who chose cohousing — a grassroots, non-institutional living model popular in Denmark, Sweden, the Netherlands, and across North America. But what exactly is cohousing? To find out, we spoke with residents of 18 senior cohousing communities around the world.

In "Witch Hunt," we visit Poland, Romania, and Spain to discover what it means to be a witch in 21st-century Europe. We're interested in magic, but not necessarily esotericism. We examine the figure of the witch as a nonconformist who rebels, draws from her own wisdom, and fights for her rights. Among our protagonists are urban witches and rural healers, but also activists, artists, psychologists, and playwrights.
We explore why, at the same time capitalism was emerging in Europe, tens of thousands of women burned at the stake. They were accused of witchcraft and consorting with the devil, but what if, as French author Mona Chollet put it, the devil was independence itself? Were women burned for what we now call feminism?
